Panthers Drop Fourth Straight Game to Division Rivals Tampa, 24-17

After a week of finger pointing and big questions being asked by many, the Panthers were unable to bring life back to their season and fell to a record of 6-6 with a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This was the Panthers 4th consecutive loss and their 5th loss on the road this season, compounding more misery on the travelling Panthers fans who have seen their team win just once on the road all season.

This loss leaves Carolina in no man’s land in terms of playoff implications, with the NFC wildcard race being as competitive as ever. But this defeat could be the catalyst for some bigger decisions going forward, particularly when it comes to the coaching situation. Ron Rivera, who as per reports took over extra responsibility when it came to defensive play calling, cannot hide from the problems that continue to exist on that side of the ball where again today the opposition were allowed to score at will and put Cam Newton and our offense up against the wall when they had the ball.

Having said that, this serves as no excuse to the offense who are every bit to blame for the loss today. The talent is obvious, with players from Newton to Curtis Samuel to Christian McCaffrey all making plays in certain spots, but overall this feels like a beaten team that is ready for a change, and that starts at the Head Coaching position.

As I write this, the news has only just come through that the Green Bay Packers have fired their Head Coach Mike McCarthy. The goal being? That they get the best out of their generationally talented QB for whatever time he has left in the game. Carolina currently have their own Quarterback with talents that any offensive coach would be dying to work with.

If the Panthers can recognise that finding a progressive, attack minded head coach to pair with Cam is the best thing for the franchise going forward, the sooner the better it is to get that guy in. If not, then more of these mediocre seasons can be expected from the Panthers going forward.
